Competition terms

These terms apply to every T2U Comps competition. Each competition page also shows its own key details, which form part of these terms.

Draft for solicitor review before launch.

In short
  • Open to UK residents aged 18 or over. One account per person.
  • Every paid draw can also be entered free by post, with the same chance.
  • Ticket numbers are random. The draw happens on the date shown, whatever sells.
  • A public random number picks the winner and we publish everything so you can check it.
  • Tickets can't be cancelled once issued. Credit, points and vouchers have no cash value.

1. The promoter

The promoter is Tools 2U Direct SW Ltd, trading as Tools 2U Direct Comps, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 12774657), registered office 6 Costly St, Ivybridge PL21 0DB. Contact: [email protected].

Our competitions are prize draws: prizes are awarded in accordance with the laws of chance. Because every paid draw can also be entered free by post with the same chance of winning, they are free draws under Schedule 2 of the Gambling Act 2005, not lotteries.

3. Who can enter

Entry is open to UK residents aged 18 or over, except our employees, their households and anyone professionally connected with the competitions. You need one account per person. We may ask for proof of age, identity and address, and must see photo ID before awarding a prize, except site credit prizes, which go straight into the winner's account. Entries made in breach of these terms are void.

4. How to enter

You need a free account to enter, whether online or by post. You can buy tickets on this website, or enter free by post as set out on the free postal entry page. Paid and postal entries have the same chance of winning. Postal entries must match a registered account; a postcard that arrives within 72 hours after the closing time earns one ticket's value as site credit instead of entry. Each competition page shows the ticket price, the maximum number of tickets, the maximum per person, the opening and closing date and time, and the prize. Those details form part of these terms and don't change once a competition is live.

5. Ticket limits

Each competition has a maximum number of tickets, a maximum per person and may have a maximum per order. Paid and postal entries both count. Tickets in your checkout are held for a short time (shown at checkout) while you pay; if you don't pay in time or you leave the checkout, they're released for others.

6. Tickets

Each ticket gets a number picked at random from the numbers still available, between 1 and the maximum number of tickets for that competition. When and how many you buy doesn't change the chance of any one ticket winning. Your ticket numbers are shown after payment, in your account and by email. A ticket is only valid once payment has been received. Tickets can't be transferred.

7. The draw

Each competition closes and is drawn at the time shown, whether or not all tickets have sold. We do not extend the closing date, reduce the prize or cancel a competition because of low sales. The winning ticket is chosen at random using the drand public randomness beacon round announced on the competition page before it closed. That round's random value gives a ticket number from 1 to the maximum number of tickets: (random value mod the maximum) + 1. If that ticket was sold or entered free, it wins. If nobody holds it, we use drand's next round (published 30 seconds later) in the same way, and so on, until the number is a ticket somebody holds. If 60 numbers in a row are tickets nobody holds, the next drand round picks a place in the list of entered tickets in ticket-number order instead ((random value mod tickets entered) + 1), so the draw can't run on for hours. Every number used, the entry list fingerprint and the result are published on the results page. (Competitions that went live before November 2026 were drawn by place in the sorted entry list, as their results pages explain.)

If, for reasons outside our control, the entry list can't be locked before the announced round is published, we lock the list first and then use a new round that hasn't been published yet. We show both rounds and the reason on the results page.

8. Instant wins

For instant win competitions, the winning ticket numbers for each instant prize are chosen at random before the competition opens, and a SHA-256 fingerprint of the list is shown on the competition page. The list is published when the competition closes. Instant prizes are listed on the competition page with how many remain. All tickets, including instant winners, are also entered in the end-prize draw. An instant prize is only won if its winning ticket number is issued before the competition closes. Instant prizes whose numbers are not issued are not won, are not redrawn and are kept by us. The published list shows which winning numbers were issued.

9. Prizes

The prize is as described on the competition page. Where a cash alternative is shown, the winner may choose it instead; we pay it by bank transfer within 48 hours of the winner being verified. Prizes are delivered free to any UK address within 28 days of the winner being verified. Tools 2U Direct vouchers won as instant prizes are single-use codes for tools2udirect.com, valid for 12 months, with no cash value. If a prize becomes unavailable for reasons outside our control we will provide a prize of equal or greater value. See Winners and prizes.

10. Prize condition and use

Tool prizes are new, come from our own stock and carry the manufacturer's standard warranty, which the winner can claim in the usual way. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidance. We aren't responsible for loss, damage or injury from using a prize, except where caused by our negligence or where the law doesn't allow us to exclude it. Prizes can't be swapped for a different item. We're not aware of any UK tax due on winning a prize; winners are responsible for any tax that applies to their own circumstances.

11. Winners

We contact winners by email and phone within 48 hours of the draw. Prizes are only awarded to the account holder (or the person named on a postal entry) after an ID check, and cash prizes or cash alternatives are paid by bank transfer to a UK account in the winner's own name. If we can't reach a winner, or they don't verify their identity within 14 days, we will draw again using the next published drand round. We publish winners' first name and initial and county. You can ask us not to publish your name; we may still have to give it to the Advertising Standards Authority if asked.

12. Points, credit and vouchers

Points are earned on card payments and can be swapped for site credit. Site credit and discount codes can only be used on tickets and have no cash value. We may correct points or credit added in error, and take back points earned on an order that is refunded.

13. Refunds and cancellation

Because each ticket is entered into a draw straight away, you can't cancel a ticket once it is issued. We don't give refunds if you change your mind, enter by mistake, aren't eligible, or don't like the prize. If we have to cancel a competition for reasons outside our control (for example fraud or a technical failure), or your entry was taken in error (for example a payment that arrived after the tickets were released), we refund what you paid to the original payment method, normally within 14 days, and tell you by email. To ask for a refund, email [email protected] with “Refund request” in the subject. This doesn't affect your statutory rights.

14. Payment disputes

If you think a payment wasn't made by you, please contact us first so we can look into it straight away. If a chargeback is raised for tickets that were genuinely bought, we may void those tickets, suspend the account and recover reasonable costs.

15. Your account

You may only have one account, in your own name, with accurate details. Other people in your home can have their own. You need to confirm your email address before entering free giveaways. If we find more than one account for the same person, we may remove free entries and promotional credit from the extra accounts and close them; paid tickets stay in their draws unless refunded. Keep your password safe; you're responsible for entries made from your account. Site credit and points don't expire while your account is open, except promotional credit that says it must be used by a date (for example credit won in a welcome giveaway), which is removed if it hasn't been used by then. When you pay with credit, any credit that's due to expire is used first. If you close your account, tickets you already hold stay in their draws, and any unused credit or points are lost.

16. Fair play

Using bots, scripts, multiple accounts, false details or anything else to get an unfair advantage isn't allowed. We may void entries and close accounts that break these terms, and refund any money paid for those entries.

17. Social media

Our competitions aren't sponsored, endorsed or run by Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or any other social media platform. Anything we post there is for information; these terms and the competition page are what count.

18. Our responsibility

We are not responsible for entries lost, delayed or damaged in the post, or for problems with the internet or payment systems outside our control. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that can't be limited by law.

19. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms for future competitions. The terms that apply to a competition are the ones in place when it opened, and we never change a live competition's prize, price, ticket numbers or dates.

20. Disputes

If you're unhappy, please use our complaints process. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of the UK nations have jurisdiction.
